Terms of Use & Legal Disclaimer
Last updated: June 2026. Please read these Terms carefully. By using Footing you agree to all of them.
1. Not a law firm; no legal advice
Footing is a self-help information and document-preparation tool operated by A2BE Inc. It is not a law firm, lawyer referral service, or substitute for an attorney, and it does not practice law. Nothing on Footing — including guides, the firm finder, generated documents, AI output, or any communication — is legal advice, and none of it is a recommendation about what you should do in your case. General legal information is not the same as legal advice for your situation.
2. No attorney-client relationship
Using Footing, creating an account, or generating a document does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Footing, A2BE Inc., or anyone associated with them. No confidential or fiduciary relationship is formed. Communications with Footing are not privileged.
3. You must consult a licensed attorney
Family law is complex and fact-specific, and getting it wrong can permanently affect your rights, your finances, and your children. You should have a licensed Connecticut attorney review your situation and any document before you rely on it or file it with a court. If you cannot afford an attorney, contact Connecticut Statewide Legal Services or the Connecticut Judicial Branch's court service centers. Footing can connect you with an independent attorney through AVOWAL, but the choice to obtain counsel is yours and is strongly recommended.
4. You are responsible for your own case
You — and only you — are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and filing of everything in your case, including any document prepared with Footing. You are responsible for verifying every fact, date, dollar amount, legal citation, court rule, deadline, and form version before use. Footing does not file anything for you, does not appear in court for you, and does not ensure any document is accepted by a court.
5. No warranty; accuracy not guaranteed
Footing is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement. Laws, court rules, forms, and case law change, and information on Footing may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. AI-generated content may contain errors. Court forms are provided by linking to third-party government sources we do not control. We do not warrant that Footing will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
6. No guarantee of any outcome
Footing does not promise, predict, or guarantee any result in any legal matter. Statistics, patterns, and firm profiles describe public records and general tendencies only — they are not predictions about your case and not a recommendation for or against any attorney or firm.
7. Assumption of risk; limitation of liability
You assume all risk from using Footing. To the fullest extent permitted by law, A2BE Inc. and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for any lost rights, claims, opportunities, money, time, or adverse court outcome, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) Footing — even if advised of the possibility. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to Footing will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the prior twelve months or US $100.
8. Release and indemnification
You release A2BE Inc. and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates from any and all claims, demands, and damages arising out of or connected with your use of Footing or any document or information obtained through it. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold them harmless from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of Footing, your documents or filings, or your violation of these Terms.
9. Unauthorized practice of law
Footing provides scrivener/self-help and information services and does not select legal strategies for you, does not tell you what to do, and does not exercise legal judgment on your behalf. Any decisions about your case are yours, made by you or with your own attorney.
10. Privacy & your information
Information you enter is used to provide the service (for example, to help assemble your own documents). Do not enter information you are not authorized to share. You are responsible for safeguarding access to your account.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms; continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
